Assignment No:03

2. Suppose an organization has initiated a project to build a data warehouse, according to the proposal submitted to the management, the investment is a few dozens of millions of rupees.

a.) Draw a suitable diagram that depicts a data warehouse architecture.

b.) State 2 advantages of data warehouse to an organization.

Enables organizations to forecast with confidence.
    Improves the decision making process.

c.) Data warehouse projects are large IT investments that are susceptible to fail. Briefly explain 3 possible factors that effect the success or failure of large IT investments taking data warehousing as an example.

  1. Identify your existing bottlenecks that are slowing down the flow of information. Performance optimization won’t matter if that is not done first.
  2. The design should always focus on ease of use and speed. Design is very important because users can be distracted by making their data warehouse into an intricate design that sacrifices speed. Speed should always be the number one priority.
  3. Pay close attention to the quality of the data. It needs to be clean and accurate. If not, the output is likely to show discrepancies.
d.) Explain what the IT manager of this organization should do to avoid any possible failure of  the proposed data warehouse.

Assemble a small team of good people for the data warehouse project. Since the data warehouse is        new, and all the good people are already actively involved with other projects, management will
often try to staff with people who have nothing to do. Don’t accept incompetents or nay sayers on the     team.

Allow adequate time for training – Even if the tools are intuitive, training is still required to                    understand the data and know how to validate the query results.

3.) Experts say that artificial intelligence is going to bring lots of challenges and opportunities to business organizations. Elaborate your opinion on this using suitable examples as appropriate.

The past decade has witnessed a monumental growth in AI, many top tier internet companies have        invested money in developing AI for the betterment of mankind, AI may sound futuristic and                something like out of a science fiction movie, but what we need to ask ourselves is, whether this will     really be beneficial for mankind.

challenges

Implementing an AI based system to an organization will come of an exorbitant price, many fledgling organizations might not be able to invest in AI.

The use of AI might put certain confidential information at jeopardy of being stolen, as we still do not know for sure as to how these AI systems operate.

Opportunities

Certain types of jobs that requires human intelligence can be swapped for an AI which will save the organization a lot of money.

Since AI is driven by a computer the accuracy of estimates and workings will be impeccable.

AI  does not need an induction time for an organization as humans do.
